History of the Hua Hin Golf Society

Weekly update: Your missing correspondent has turned up after a few hours absence in Cha Am on a cultural visit. This week we played at the beautiful layout of Majestic Creek. We had 37 players in our normal two categories. Subsequent to last week's outing one of our members, Simon Rouse, and a guest, Richard Wasilok, played in the Royal Garden Classic Tournament, sponsored by the Royal Garden Resort and mangaged by Hua Hin Golf Tours. They finished 1st and 2nd with scores of 39 and 38 Stapleford points respectively, out of a field of 100 competitors. Golf is thriving in Hua Hin.

For more information, contact Berny at Berny's Inn or Hua Hin Golf Tours. Next week's match will be held at Palm Hills on Tuesday the 24th. If you need a ride, be in front of the Melia at 0800.

The Hua Hin Golf Society was formed in November 1995. It was an idea amongst four expats resident in Hua Hin who happened to be friends and golf enthusiasts with a love for the wonderful game of golf as played with the true spirit of sport, play for pleasure and simple enjoyment. From that date the society progressed to a membership of fifty players, some resident and some overseas. The tournaments are held every Tuesday throughout the year on one of five courses that are within 30 km of Hua Hin, namely Royal Hua Hin, Palm Hills, Lake View Princess, Springfield and Majestic Creek. In addition to these venues we also occasionally visit Milford (123 km south), Cha Am Villa (35 km north) and Sawang resort (80 km north). The format for the tournaments are either stroke play or stableford, two categories:  A 0-28, B 29-40. The winners are given awards at the end of each days play. Your entrance fee is converted into prizes and give back to the lucky players.

We have between 12 and 30 competitors for each event. The atmosphere is wonderful; in any meeting we have up to 16 nationalities. Everybody gets on so well, it makes being member of the society very rewarding, as you see all these people from so many different backgrounds and countries genuinely enjoying themselves. We have handicaps from 0-62, and anybody can join us on our Tuesday outings. There have been winners from many countries. In the two years we have been a society there have been three holes in one namely, Wolfgang Pastierski (of Monta's Garden Restaurant), Tony from U.K. and Retu Stoffel from Switzerland. Respectively at Sawang, Majestic Creek and Lake View. All Par 3's.

We invite all visitors to join us for a great day out with people who have the same problems as us--how to get that ball in the hole for lower strokes than the others.
